چکیده

The distribution of times ∆t between coronal mass ejections (CMEs) in the Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO) CME catalog for the years 1996-2001 is examined. The distribution exhibits a power-law tail ∝ (∆t) with an index γ ≈ −2.36± 0.11 for large waiting times (∆t > 10 hours). The powerlaw index of the waiting-time distribution varies with the solar cycle: for the years 1996-1998 (a period of low activity), the power-law index is γ ≈ −1.86±0.14, and for the years 1999-2001 (a period of higher activity), the index is γ ≈ −2.98±0.20. The observed CME waiting-time distribution, and its variation with the cycle, may be understood in terms of CMEs occurring as a time-dependent Poisson process. The CME waiting-time distribution is compared with that for greater than C1 class solar flares in the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) catalog for the same years. The flare and CME waiting-time distributions exhibit power-law tails with very similar indices and time variation.

Solar Mini-Dimming Kinematics and Their Positive Correlations with Coronal Mass Ejections and Prominence

Solar mini-dimmings can be detect in the Extreme Ultra-Violet coronal eruptions. Here, sequences of 171_A images taken by Solar Dynamic Observatory/Atmospheric Imaging Assembaly on 13 June 2010 are used. In this special day, both of coronal mass ejection and prominence were observed. The average velocities and accelerations of 500 mini-dimmings which were detected using on feature based classif...

Synchrotron Radio Emission from a Fast Halo Coronal Mass Ejection

An interplanetary (IP) type-II-like radio burst is analyzed. It occurred on 2003 June 17-18 in association with a fast halo coronal mass ejection (CME), an M6.8 soft-X-ray (SXR) flare, and produced a solar proton event. Unlike coronal type II bursts and the majority of IP type II radio emissions, the IP type-II-like event associated with the fast halo CME on June 17-18 varies smoothly in time a...

CORONAL MAGNETIC FIELD CONTEXT OF SIMPLE CMEs INFERRED FROM GLOBAL POTENTIAL FIELD MODELS

Most work on coronal mass ejection (CME) interpretation focuses on the involved active region rather than on the large-scale coronal context. In this paper a global potential-field sourcesurface model of the coronal magnetic field is used to evaluate the sensitivity of the coronal field configuration to the location, orientation, and strength of a bipolar active region relative to a background ...

A NUMERICAL MODEL OF A CORONAL MASS EJECTION: SHOCK DEVELOPMENT WITH IMPLICATIONS FOR THE ACCELERATION OF GeV PROTONS

The initiation and evolution of the coronal mass ejection, which occurred on 1998 May 2 in NOAA Active Region 8210, are modeled using a fully three-dimensional, global MHD code. The initial magnetic field for the model is based on magnetogram data from the Wilcox Solar Observatory, and the solar eruption is initiated by slowly evolving the boundary conditions until a critical point is reached w...

A spectroscopic study of coronal dimming associated with a coronal mass ejection

Extreme ultraviolet spectroscopic observations of one coronal mass ejection event are used to examine the onset phase of the eruption. We find significant dimming of million K plasmas in the low corona under the ascending CME, the activation of an adjacent prominence and 2 million K ‘hot spots’ which may be associated with the CME footpoints. In particular, we show that the dimming is due to a ...
